Concussions should be treated seriously

Concussions are a form of mild traumatic brain injury. Over 30% of people with concussion have symptoms that persist months after the injury. The brain requires a significant amount of time before blood flow and glucose levels normalise and its full function can be performed.

Concussion is Complex

Concussion may present with a large variety of symptoms depending on the part of the brain that is impacted. Current guidelines recommend assessment within 72 hours by a qualified professional to establish any functional deficits and establish a recovery plan.

Treatment for concussion

Gradual exercise exposure is highly recommended along with specific vestibular, ocular or cognitive retraining. Osteopathic manual therapy depends on your specific symptoms and physical examination but often includes lymphatic draininage techniques, cervical spine treatment and general soft-tissue work.
